Discovering the ringuette

5 Aug 2010

What is it? It is simply a softer version of ice hockey for girls that I discovered yesterday evening. The player’s equipment is identical to ice hockey, but the stick, the puck and the rules are somewhat different.

The ringuette shaft and ring

  • The stick has no blade, it is simply a hockey shaft to which is added a plastic tip.
  • The puck is rather a plastic ring
  • The rules … There are quite a few! lol
Ringuette

A ringuette player

The goal of the game is to score in the opponent’s net in batting through the ring. The game is slower than ice hockey, but more technical as to move the blue lines you must make a pass to a teammate. Also, in offensive / defensive areas which are between the red line and behind the goal there can be only three players from each team. The other players are waiting wisely so that the ring area to play.

The handling of the ring is quite tricky, especially when receive the pass … we must target.

The discovery was interesting but I prefer to play ice hockey as it is still faster and physically. If the opportunity presents itself I would go back definitely!
