We can say that our administrative immigration is over for the moment. We received our Permanent Resident card which allows us to go out and go back to Canada territory for the next 5 years. Next step, in 3 years for the citizenship !
As indicated in the title, we received by post our Quebec driving license. For safety measure, we won’t publish a picture f our own license as they are official document to prove our identity.
Here is a specimen :
It’s not bigger than a credit card, which is more convenient in the wallet! Each driving license shall be renewed at your birthday and costs +/- 80$. If you get a fine and loose points, you’ll have to pay a premium during 2 years at each renewal… be careful!
Now, we need a car!
Last week we booked an appointment with the SAAQ to proceed to the exchange of our French driving license against a Quebec driving license. In fact it is not really a trade because at the end we keep our French driving license.
The operation looks like that the RAMQ, you get a ticket and you wait that your number appears on the big screen. In order to obtain the driving license we needed to provide our passport, our French driving license, the permanent resident card (or confirmation) and the selection certificate Quebec.
After these checks, we obtained a temporary driving license for 20 days, the time we receive by mail the permanent.
After a few phone call to the removal agency, we have the confirmation that our contenair has arrived in Montreal. We must now go through customs in order to get them out of the warehouse. The agency, concerned with the transit of our belongings to our cabin, book us an appointment to Montreal Customs.
The customs office is located in downtown Montreal, in one of the many corners that we have not yet explored. With the form of our personal effects and the B4A, we stamped upon our arrival at the airport, as well as document the contenair, previously faxed from the agency delivery, we met an officer. It was very fast and we got the sesame that will allow our belongings to leave the warehouse.
We received few minutes later a call from delivery personnel to confirm their passage tomorrow morning.
